An excerpt from “The Phoenix of Big House” in Clan:

“The Phoenix was the disco ball of our childhood. That’s right, a great big campy, blingy ball of mirrors. You didn’t get Confucian lessons about filial piety from him, oh no! You learnt about cool stuff, the kind of information that made a real difference to our lives – tea dances, make-up, fashion. Ninth Uncle was a walking, talking Nüyou magazine. Because of him, we became the coolest girls in town. Everyone knew that no one could cha-cha-cha like us girls from Big House.”
